Management Guidelines

Early Stage Management

Day Old Chicks selection

Source strong, healthy Kienyeji chicks from reputable hatcheries. Check weight (45g), clear eyes, well-developed feet, and contented chirping.

Brooding Hygiene

Provide clean, hygienic brooding area for newly hatched chicks. Ensure good hatching conditions if breeding on-farm.

Early Feeding

Present feed on flat trays initially. Check crops - 95% should be full within 24 hours. Monitor feed intake closely after day 4.

Clean Water

Supply clean drinking water fortified with electrolytes or stress pack. Essential for healthy chick development.

Growing Phase Management

{{brizy_dc_image_alt imageSrc=
Space Allowance

Provide optimum floor space for feeders and drinkers. Adequate space prevents stress and promotes uniform growth.

Weight Monitoring

Weigh sample birds weekly to monitor progress. Target 1.5kg at point of lay. Prevent premature sexual maturity through careful feeding.

Parasite Control

Dust or spray regularly to control external parasites. Maintain proper hygienic conditions in the shed.

{{brizy_dc_image_alt imageSrc=
Litter Management

Keep litter dry and replace regularly. Wet litter harbors disease and reduces bird health and performance.

Layer Phase Management

{{brizy_dc_image_alt imageSrc=
Ventilation

Ensure adequate airflow to prevent ammonia buildup, heat stress, and moisture. Poor ventilation reduces egg quality and production.

{{brizy_dc_image_alt imageSrc=
Light Management

Increase light duration to 16 hours by 30-35 weeks. Stimulates laying onset and improves shell quality and egg size.

{{brizy_dc_image_alt imageSrc=
Egg Collection

Collect eggs 3 times daily to prevent breakages and maintain cleanliness. Monitor size, shape, shell strength, and yolk color.

De-beaking

De-beak at onset of laying to prevent egg pecking and breakages. Maintains flock harmony and reduces losses.
